About KBEK 95.5 FM


KBEK 95.5 FM is the local radio station serving East Central Minnesota. With our powerful 25,000 watt signal, KBEK's listening area extends south into Anoka County, east into Wisconsin, north to Pine and Aitkin Counties, and west to the eastern edge of St. Cloud.

On the air since 1995, KBEK provides East Central Minnesota with local news, sports, weather, and community information. KBEK communicates school closings and other timely announcements, obituary notices twice daily, and public service information. KBEK staff members live in the towns within our broadcast area including Mora, Cambridge, Braham, Pine City, Brook Park, Ogilvie, Grasston, and Arthur Township.

KBEK's music format is "Songs From the Best Times of Your Life", a variety of songs that includes music from throughout the 50s through the 90s and more. In the spring of 2005 KBEK expanded our music library by adding more than 2000 songs. Our format appeals to a diverse group of listeners.

Our Awards!

KBEK just won another Media Best Award from the Minnesota Broadcasters Association (MBA)! At a banquet in mid-April on the campus of the U of M we'll receive an award for our 2006 "Fall Colors" station promotion.

We've won numerous awards from the MBA since we began in 1995! Here's a list:

  • 1996: Award Of Excellence for our Vasaloppet coverage.

  • 1998: Media Best Awards for our Todd Rust Fundraiser public service announcements, and "Best Commercial" for Davis Communications Design.

  • 1999: Media Best Awards for our "Vasa Moments" announcements, and public service announcements for the Kanabec History Center.

  • 2000: Media Best Awards for "Vasa Moments" announcements, public service announcements for the Therapeutic Service Agency, and "Bringing Community Service Home" for our "Relay For Life" coverage.

  • 2001: Media Best Awards for our Vasaloppet sports coverage, public service announcements for The Refuge, and "Bringing Community Service Home" for our breast cancer awareness campaign.

  • 2002: Media Best Awards for our Vasaloppet sports coverage and "Bringing Community Service Home" for our "Rock Around the Clock" coverage.

  • 2003: Media Best Awards for our cancer interview series, "Best Commercial Campaign" for Horse Tales, and "Bringing Community Service Home" for our Rolling Plains Art Gallery announcements.

  • 2004: Media Best Award for sports coverage of the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament.

  • 2005: Media Best Award for sports coverage of the Braham High School boys basketball team championship homecoming.

  • 2006: Media Best Awards for spot news coverage of a student car accident in May 2005, and for "soft news" coverage on hurricane relief efforts in Texas.

Featuring

KBEK provides hourly reports from the Minnesota News Network. Our listeners have access to quality state newscasts, sports reports, and special features. Tune in to our newscasts at the top of each hour, all day long, and you'll hear from MNN in addition to our locally-produced news.


KBEK provides updates from the Minnesota Farm Network every weekday: five times in the morning, and three times every afternoon.



KBEK provides live updates from Weather Eye Weather Center three times a day: at 6:11 am, 11:40 am, and 4:40 pm.  Weather Eye also provides updates around the clock when severe weather affects the KBEK listening area.

KBEK broadcasts local sports and promotes local events such as concerts, plays, and fund-raising activities.  In addition, we present an interview each weekday morning focusing on a topic of local interest.  On Sunday mornings and evenings we broadcast several services from local churches.
